Her inspiration came from all of her surroundings. The main character, Harry Potter, was named after one of her childhood friends named, "Ian Potter". The two became friends after her and her sister (Di) had played wizards and he joined in, starting to play with them daily in the woods. They would run around with sticks in hand, "casting" spells. She had first gotten the idea while riding a train from Manchester to London. Many publishing companies had declined her book, until finally one had given her the chance to succeed.
By 2000, 3 years after releasing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, she earned over $480 million. She was rated one of the wealthiest woman in the world, having more money than the Queen of England herself!
